The Do-LaB

I Remember like it was yesterday, one of those times where it’s meant to be, a friend I used to work with at an Audio Video Company in La Quinta CA, called Radio Active, Chris invited me to dj. a party in a Mansion in Rancho La Quinta, where a lot of the staff of the DoLab where having a pow-wow prior to festival season in 2006, it was a great night to network and enjoy some amazing cooking by Chris and his girlfriend also some dope fire dancers that where showcasing their talent by the pool during sun down.

Days prior to Coachella, Chris called me and mention if I was interested in providing Audio and Dj for a new small stage at the festival grounds, I was mind struck, couldn’t believe it, when he told me that they loved my music selection and where wondering if I could bring in audio and set it up in a Hand Made Stage for Steam Punk Choreographers that came from Burning Man and Various parts of the Country Located right in the middle of the Gigantic Stages, knowing me I didn’t hesitate to say “YES that I would LOVE TO” I drove home and pick up everything I got, witch back then I only had a pair of Dual 15” Peavey mids and a pair of 20” custom made subs.

Got a call from Mónica Fernandez, who worked for Jesse & Josh Flemming, told me to meet her around 10am near a gate by the Do Lab Camp and allow me to drive my Dodge A-100 fully loaded with Audio Equipment, fell like I was driving in to heaven…

Back then, she provided me with enough bracelets and a staff parking sticker, felt like a coyote taking in as many friends as possible to Experience the Biggest and Bestest Music and Arts Festival in the World.

The Flemming brothers; Dede and twins Jesse and Josh, are cofounders and architects of The Do LaB. With their largest festival –Lightning in a Bottle

“”In those early days, “We were definitely renegade,” Josh says. Their original proposal hadn’t said anything about sound, but they smuggled in a small system anyway and turned the dome into a party space for their friends and curious attendees. “After the show, Goldenvoice recognized it was actually nice to have a smaller stage, not sanctioned but just playing music inside the festival.” So they were invited back.””

Jesse & Josh Flemming.

The Afterparty went from 2:00am-8:00am where I had the opportunity to Dj. from 3:00am to 5:00am along with great friends and worldly recognized artist, Beautiful Ladies where dancing on top of my speakers :] that’s when a friend gave me the name of #FunkNastyFresh.

By the end of the festival, Monday Morning 8:00 AM my equipment got destroyed by all the water that was sprayed to keep the audience hydrated and how loud we where rocking out, it was all worth it. I felt honored to have been the first Local DJ to ever hit the Stage and smuggle in Audio Equipment at the DoLab / Camp Grounds ;]

It all Happened because of a friend of a friend, connecting the dots, respecting your network, pushing egos aside and counting on each other to build something amazing that has a great story behind.

To the great times, and the Future ones to come…
